Check 21 encourages image based processing of checks. The major changes are reduced check processing time and replacement of the original check with an Image Replacement Document, or “substitute” check. If your check is converted to an image and sent electronically, the float time on checks written will be substantially reduced. In some cases float time could be reduced from a few days to a few hours. However, the float time on deposits will also be decreased, giving you access to deposits more rapidly. Once the original check is electronically imaged, it will likely be destroyed by the imaging bank. If the original check is needed, you will receive a substitute check. This substitute check will have the same legal standing as the original check. |
